 Center for Senior Health:

Services offered at the Memorial Healthcare Center for Senior Health are centered around a comprehensive geriatric assessment for older adults. Provided by Ly Gau, D.O., board certified geriatric medicine specialist and her team, this assessment helps older adults and their caregivers to live as independently as possible for as long as possible. Working closely with the patient's primary care physician, Dr. Gau's services focus on managing physical, emotional and safety needs of older adults and also help to prepare families for decision making later on. Physical management of conditions such as dementia, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's is also provided.

The Center for Senior Health is located at Memorial's North Campus, 1490 N. M-52 (Suite 3) in Owosso and is the only center of its kind in Shiawassee County. Dr. Gau and the center are accepting new patients at (989) 729-4828.

  • Volunteer Opportunities:

Memorial Healthcare offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for those who want to stay active and be part of the caring team at Memorial Healthcare. Each year, numerous volunteers and Auxiliary members contribute over 35,000 hours of their time making Memorial a caring and welcome environment.

Every case, and every patient's needs, are unique. For your specific needs, Memorial Healthcare Center offers medical expertise and support programs in the following areas:

    Speciality Care Areas:

    Critical Care Unit:

The Critical Care unit is designed to care for the critically and seriously ill patient. This unit provides continuous observation, concentrated skilled nursing care, specialized treatment and emergency lifesaving measures. The unit is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and allows for the centralized monitoring of each patient's condition.

The Critical Care Unit has eight private rooms and serves both medical and postsurgical patients.

    Long-Term Care:

Our 20-bed Long Term Care Unit offers both skilled and basic levels of care without leaving the main inpatient facility. A multi-disciplinary staff works together to provide residents with an atmosphere that is comfortable and "home-like." Planned activities, facilitated by a full-time activity technician, are offered on a daily basis. These include spiritual services, movies, crafts and group exercises. Weekly patient care conferences include nurses, therapy staff, social workers, dieticians, physicians, the patient and/or the patient's family.

The Long Term Care Nusing Unit at Memorial Healthcare scored 100 percent in resident/family satisfaction (2008) for the fourth consecutive year. In addition, the unit performed very well on its October 2008 Michigan Department of Community Health Survey.
