PURPOSE
To determine whether you have exercise-induced asthma
PREPARATION
Wear comfortble clothing with a short sleeve shirt that buttons down the front. Wear shoes that you can walk/run comfortably in. DO NOT use inhalers within the three (3) hours prior to having your test. The Test will take 30-60 minutes.
PROCEDURE
The first thing you will do is at least three (3) breathing exercises. Next you will be set up to do the exercise portion of this test, utilizing the treadmill. You will be hooked up to the cardiac monitor. Your heart rate and blood pressure will be monitored throughout the entire test. A pre-exercise EKG will be done. The test will be stopped when your breathing becomes labored, you reach your maximum heart rate, or you when you can no longer continue. At this point, you will again be asked to do three (3) breathing exercises (immediately and a 5-minute intervals) for the next thirty (30) minutes. If you have difficulty breathing, a breathing treatment with Proventil will be given. This reverses the effects of the exercise. Your breathing will be monitored until you are back to the baseline. RESULTS Results will be sent to the patient's physician. A report will be available to the physician within three (3) business days.
LOCATION
