Health Alerts & Disaster Communication
Memorial Healthcare maintains an organized approach to emergency preparedness and response that provides for the safety of staff, patients, visitors and volunteers while maintaining the integrity of the hospital, and/or its satellite locations, during an emergency or disaster event. Our first responsibility during any significant event or disaster is to maintain an environment for safe patient care at our facilities.
During emergencies or disasters, the hospital will work diligently to provide updated information to hospital staff, patients, families and the community. Staff members may receive additional communication via in-house messaging, pagers or phone.

National News: The tragedies in Chile and Haiti have touched hundreds of thousands of lives. The needs now and in the future will be enormous. The American Red Cross is very involved in the efforts to relieve suffering and rebuild those communities. Some of you may wish to donate to this cause. Cheryl Peterson, President of the Shiawassee County chapter of the American Red Cross, provides the following information concerning donations of money or skills.
Donations can be made to the Red Cross Service Center in Corunna, online at www.redcross.org or www.midmichiganredcross.org.
If donations are specific to Chile or Haiti (which most of them will probably be), the memo line on the check should say AP 2885 Haiti Relief Fund or Chile Relief Fund.
For AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint customers, another option for those who text is to text HAITI or CHILE to 90999. This will send a donation of $10 to the Red Cross relief efforts. This amount will be automatically charged to your cell phone account. You will not be charged for the text message.
Volunteers - The agency accepting information about volunteers to go to Chile or Haiti is www.interaction.org. This organization will contact the potential volunteer directly if their skill set is needed.
Michigan News - Bedbugs: In response to public anxiety and increasing reports of bed bug infestations in Michigan’s metropolitan areas, the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has developed a Web site and a comprehensive manual aimed at educating renters, homeowners, facility managers, and other government agencies about the best practices for bed bug prevention and control.
For more information including informational pamphlets, guidance documents, and links to the list of state licensed pest management professionals, see Michigan’s website at www.michigan.gov/bedbugs.
