Memorial is proud to offer area residents a new Cancer Center, opened in 2008, where patients receive the most up-to-date treatments in a unique healing environment designed for wellness, hope, and possibilities. Memorial's Oncology Surgical Services inlcude:
- Brachytherapy - A less invasive prostate cancer treatment which involves the placement of radioactive seeds directly into the cancer site. Radioactive seeds are inserted directly into the prostate, minimizing exposure to surrounding tissue.
- Breast Brachytherapy - Radiation seed implant technology which significantly reduces a woman's radiation course from six or seven weeks to only five days. A balloon implant is placed inside the lumpectomy cavity and allows radiation doses to be targeted to specific areas instead of exposing the entire breast to high doses of raditation.
- Sentinel Node Biopsy - An innovative technique used to trace the spread of breast cancer and determine whether it has spread to any lymph nodes.
- Gynecological - Treatment options regarding Hysterectomies or Oophorectomies are discussed so that each patient can exercise their right to plan their own care.
